With love and care

Welcome to Kennel Mosestien, located just outside Stavanger, where we are proud to raise and preserve the magnificent Old English Sheepdog. Our journey into the world of this incredible breed began with our beloved dog, Molly, who will soon be the proud mother of our first litter. Though this is our first experience breeding, our passion for dogs goes back many years.

Our family’s first dog was a long-coated Akita Inu, who shared our lives for 15 wonderful years. When it came time to bring a new dog into our home, we carefully considered breeds that could fit both our family and the beautiful sheep-filled landscape surrounding us. After much research, we met the Old English Sheepdog club in Oslo, and it was love at first sight. Watching my twins instantly hug a stranger’s OES, I witnessed a gentleness in the dog that I had never seen before. The breed’s calm, kind nature won us over completely.

But with so few Old English Sheepdog litters in Scandinavia, we were fortunate to find Molly from a wonderful breeder in Belgium, Charlotte Van Wauve Calmerman (Hillbilly Heights), who not only provided us with a beautiful dog but also inspired us to take up the responsibility of breeding ourselves.

A Breed Steeped in History

The Old English Sheepdog is a true heritage breed with a lineage dating back centuries. Originating in England as a working dog, they were primarily used to drive cattle and sheep to market. Their strength and endurance were key to their success as herders. Over time, however, these dogs earned a reputation not just for their working ability but also for their loving, loyal nature, evolving into exceptional family companions—perfect for the modern home. This combination of intelligence and versatility still shines through in everything they do.

The Perfect Family Companion

One of the Old English Sheepdog’s most endearing features is its playful, gentle, and affectionate nature. While their teddy bear-like appearance might be the first thing you notice, it's their sweet, clownish personality that truly wins hearts. They are amazing with children, often acting as gentle protectors, and they thrive in family environments. Our Molly is a perfect example—whether it’s hiking through the countryside or cuddling on the couch, she is happiest when she’s part of our family activities.

Their sturdy and robust build makes them ideal for an outdoor lifestyle, especially in the Scandinavian climate, while their affectionate and loyal temperament means they are always ready to share love and companionship. The Old English Sheepdog is adaptable, equally at home in both active and quieter households.

A True Old Breed

In a time when many new dog breeds are mixed to create certain looks, the Old English Sheepdog stands out as a classic, purebred dog with a distinguished and reliable temperament. Their long, shaggy give them a unique, unmistakable appearance, but what lies beneath is a strong, healthy dog with a heartwarming, even-tempered personality. The traits of this breed have been honed over centuries, providing a dependable companion that is equally well-suited to family life and outdoor adventures.

Carefully Raised for Health and Happiness

At Kennel Mosestien, we take our responsibility as breeders very seriously. With Molly as the foundation of our breeding program, we focus on selecting only the finest dogs to ensure the health, temperament, and beauty of each litter. Each puppy is raised in a loving home environment, where they are well-socialized and prepared to thrive as part of their future families.

Our goal is to contribute to the preservation of the Old English Sheepdog, a breed that is rare and endangered—with around only one hundred individuals in Norway. By raising awareness about this remarkable breed, we hope to inspire others to appreciate their unique charm and continue their legacy for future generations.

Easy to Train, Perfect for Families

Old English Sheepdogs are not just visually stunning—they are also highly intelligent and eager to please, making them easy to train for first-time dog owners or families. Whether it’s mastering basic obedience or learning new tricks, they are quick learners and love to make their families proud. Their adaptable nature means they are just as happy in an active household as they are in a more relaxed environment, as long as they get enough exercise and mental stimulation.

These dogs are also well-suited for senior owners or those looking for a companion that will adjust to a slower pace. Their sometimes clumsy, playful antics—and their adorable, characteristic head tilt—are sure to bring joy and laughter to any household.

The Iconic Teddy Bear Look

While their iconic fluffy coat does require regular grooming, the care is well worth it to maintain that classic “teddy bear” look. One hour of brushing once a week will keep their coat in good shape. Many find grooming to be a bonding experience, and it helps keep their coats healthy and weather-resistant. Their double coat is perfectly suited for the Scandinavian climate, whether it's the cold of winter or rainy days.

By choosing an Old English Sheepdog, you're selecting a breed with a rich history, a reliable temperament, and the perfect balance of ruggedness and affection. At Kennel Mosestien, we are here to guide you in welcoming one of these incredible dogs into your life—a companion that will brighten your days and bring endless joy to your family for years to come.
